Hearty Slow Cooker Beef Stew

A creamy beef stew with potatoes, onion, carrot and celery and cooked in the slow cooker. Here it is served over rice, in the Deep South tradition.

8 hrs to cook Serves 6-8

Meat

1 tbsp Beef base
2 lb Chuck, roast

Produce

1/2 tsp Basil, dried
2 Carrots, large
1 stalk Celery, (rib) of thick
1/2 tsp Rosemary, dried
2 Russet potatoes, large
1 cup Sweet or yellow onion
1/2 tsp Thyme, dried

Canned Goods

4 cups Beef broth or stock

Pasta & Grains

1 Rice, Hot cooked

Baking & Spices

1 cup All purpose flour
1/4 tsp Black pepper, freshly cracked
1/4 tsp Cajun seasoning
1 tsp Kosher salt
1/4 tsp Paprika
1/2 cup Vegetable shortening

Liquids

2 cups Water

Other

2 teaspoons of Kitchen Bouquet, optional
